On February 24, 2012 her family reported to police of Ghotki district, Sindh province that she had been abducted by armed men from the family home in the village of Mirpur Mathelo. it is then alleged by the family and broadrer hindu community that she was forced to convert to Islam and marry Syed Naveed Shah, a neighbour of the girl within their village. Complications with court hearings for the case, perceptions by the Muslim community that the police sided with the Muslim community when dealing with issue and the politicisation of the case by a Pakistan Peoples Party Member for National Assembly Mian Abdul Haq alias Mian Mitho has led to a hearing being called in the Supreme Court, Islamabad, Pakistan on March 26, 2012. The hearing will hopefully ascertain whether the girl was abducted or in fact left with Syed Naveed Shah of her own free will.
