Caritas - Diffa - Niger

Nurse Harouna Hamza talks of his experiences at the medical centre in the village of Boudoum near the border with Nigeria on the outskirts of Diffa, Niger on February 13, 2016. Displaced people from Niger and Nigeria are sheltering in the village after fleeing frequent attacks at the nearby border, less than a kilometre away. An attack by Boko Haram on the Nigerien army had taken place two days before.

'Boko Haram came and told me to treat their wounded combattants. They said if I did not they would cut my throat. I knew who they were, they come from this village, they are Nigeriens. They have been back multiple times and always threatened to kill me.'
