Oxfam is distributing cheques of 7000PKR ($80USD) to 6000 households affected by floods in Sindh province. For many women it was the first time they had visited a bank in their lives and were empowered by this. Most families spent the money on food such as rice, pulses, flour, sugar and also saved some to buy clothes for Eidh. . In August 2011, Heavy monsoon rains triggered flooding in lower parts of Sindh and northern parts of Punjab.
